Excalibur seals

Been put off getting an Excal, someone said they have about 15 seals (o rings) and you are advised to send it back to the manufacturer every 12 months for a check and reseal,no doubt at some cost!

Three total seals. They are well insulated from exposure and should last almost forever. A good coating of silicone grease and they are good to go forever.

Who said?

I think I know the guy. He's a real pain. Was one of the original water hunters here in Oz. He used to do real well, always had a pocketfull of rings that he was tryiny to sell. His weapon of choice was one of the early PIs.
Had a run in with Minelabs, claiming they ripped him off and took advantage of his knowledge etc, etc.
He's been bleating about it and bad mouthing the Excal ever since.

Ignore the crap. If its a good saltwater VLF your after then the Excal would be a wise choice.

Lou.

I think the person who told you this smokes something sealed in a baggie. I bought my Excal used. The original owner never had it seviced. I have had it for three years, no seal issues, or repairs. I have been using it almost every day, in Spring, Summer, Fall.

People bad mouthing like that can be a real hassle.....;)

Yeah, you pay freight out there. They have 3 years of warranty on them. I bought my Excal 1000 in Jan. '06 and have sent it back about 4 times, with VERY LITTLE out of pocket and it has NEVER leaked. I DO ask them to reseal it, whenever it goes back though. The only things I HAVE paid for, is installations and mods. Warranty is the BEST I've seen in the industry.

Had my Excal since 1996 and had no problem with the seals and by Crikey I found a load of stuff in that time.
Don't listen to them, they are a good machine to use.

Cheers

I have been using a Baracuda by Anchor electtronics. now for seven years. It is still a very deep biting detector, superb on gold and silver. I was thinking about the excal 1000, but I am moving from a Pulse to a VLF. I had a Fisher at one point , a VLF, it sucked more so on mineralized soil. How does the excal compare to a Pulse. The baracuda had pulled quarter sized coins out from 18-23 inches of sand(underwater of course) and is superb on gold chains. Any feedback is appreciated before I spend that sort of coin. I paid almost 2k fro the baracuda back then
