I've read a lot about this detector that it's the king for salt and fresh water, how will this detector performe on land? I own the Sov. GT and I love that machine on land, (haven,t take it to the beach jet).
lets said that I use the Excal on the beach and I want to hunt at the park on my way home, will performe as good as the Sov. GT on the park?
are there any limitations or special settings for land use?
I will apreciate any information on this.
thank you for replys!
Abel.

Many guys say the use the Excal on land and it should work just as good because it's just a waterproof Sovereign. Your GT might be a bit deeper because I think I've read the Excal electronics are based on the old XS Sovereign, where as the GT is said to be a bit deeper than prior models. On the other hand, I think I remember somebody recently saying the new Excals have an updated circuit board in them so maybe they are using GT guts now?

Abel, the stock headphones are very hot and uncomfortable for land.I think the Excal is a little heavy for land, but is better balanced than a CZ20 or 21.One of the best detectors for severe weather conditions.HH Ron

Elki, I use to use mine on LAND approx. 12 yrs. ago, when I only had that detector!! It WORKS F-I-N-E!! Les Robinson

If you have an EXCAL, Make SURE you get a Aftermarket Straight Shaft, like the ones SOLD by INDIAN NATIONS Detector Sales, and
You'll NEVER REGRET IT, and you won't have to worry about the weight!! Chuck is a forum sponsor, and a GREAT GUY to deal with HOPE this HELPS, Les Robinson

The only thing that I would say about the Excal on land would be that the 8" coil(or smaller)would be preferrable for separation. Land sights(ESPECIALLY parks)are hyper-trashy and you will appreciate the separation feature or the smaller coil.

IF the Xcal is the only machine i had id use it..... otherwise its about having the right tool for the job.

I want to thank averyone here at the forum for all your responces and advices. I am traing to get a Excal but before I make my purchase decision I need to be instructed on it. I love my GT and I will be take it with me to my grave so I can hunt there too Lol. The reason that I'm asking is because a member of a club that I belong to it has one and he is about to give up on it, he said that it is to noisy and slow for him, and he try my GT and foun it better and faster responce on the target and more stable as well.
thank you all for all yur great information.
Abel.

A few guys and a gal use there excal,s in the farm fields out here and they do well even with a WOT 15 coil they get decent deep finds just like the GT it will work fine . Jim:detecting:

just remember the excal does not ground balance or have a notch dial like the gt otherwise they are just about the same.......no band 1,2 silent search .....iron mask seems to be standard.....

I haven't had my xcal (or gt for that matter) long enough to make any recommendations that I would feel comfortable giving, but.... ....hold on to your gt! I wouldn't want to give up the clearer sounds of aftermarket headphones while wet and dry sanding.

You only need to ground balance the GT when using ALL METAL fixed mode, by first pumping the coil in tracking mode or sweeping around for a few minutes in track behind switching to All Metal fixed. Pinpoint mode doesn't use a ground balance, and of course neither does regular discrimination mode.

Again, Thank you all for your input. I'm just getting ready $ way to do my purchase.
I just want everybody to know that it is GREAT to belong to a forum were people with all type of experience are able to provide what they Know and help us out to make our decision.
THANK YOU !!!!!
Abel.
