Excalibur paint bubbling, knobs loosening and falling off...

And now I'm hearing about the knob caps falling off......What is up with the Excalibur? I've been trying to decide whether I want the Excalibur or the Sovereign but the more I keep hearing about the Excalibur problems, the more I'm leaning towards the Sovereign though the fact that it comes with only a two year warrenty does scare me a little. What do you all think?

Maybe they need to invent some kind of a clear, removable, knob retaining bracket? Or maybe an easy pop on/ pop off clear molded cover.

Hey bottlebum, there is no perfect water machine. I own the best money can buy and I have broken every one of them. The Excal has recovered more gold, than any other. That's just a fact. If you want to hunt in the water and can only afford 1 unit, then the Excal is what you need. They have taken steps in the newest models, to resolve the issues, we have been complaining about. If it breaks, they will fix it. Some of my issues, were not even defects and they STILL TOOK CARE OF THEM FOR ME! The only $ I've been out, was for the Koss headphone upgrade (I likethem better)and freight to Vegas. They paid return freight both times in. Don't be scared, just buy a new unit, with a warranty. You could have it paid in gold, in a very short time. GH

I hear ya Gulf Hunter. Even though the machine has a few issues, it is still an awesome machine. I used to have an xs and even then wanted an Excal. Especially here in Florida.

I bought my Excalibur 1000 in April and it has paid for itself and then some. No paint or knob issues. I've now bought the Excalibur 800 for my friend to use and it has almost paid for itself. No problems with it either.

My bottom line is performance and so far it has performed with not quality issues at all.

It is my most productive machine ever. Of course it could be better. But right now, it is about the best thing out in my experience.

Excal, is a great detector. I have a 1000 & a BH love them both, there are some area that I hunt that you can't use the excal. they both find GOLD. If you loose knobs radio shack has them. Any way money well spent, you won't be sorry.

Budget for a straight shaft with a knob cover so you can enjoy the machine without detector's elbow. The stock shaft is no fun to swing for extended periods of time. You'll find great loot with it and have a blast. I have with mine.

Just want to thank those that took the time to reply, via the thread and w-PMs, to my post. It did help quell some of my fears. I hope to soon be joining the other Minelab users in this forum which by the way, is "THE BEST".
