If the excal ll is so good then why is there only 1 Year Factory Warranty on this machine ......just had to ask. thanks Jerry

Jerry on the minelab website they provide a phone number for you to call them, thats who can really best answer your question.

I dont believe anyone on this forum had anything to do with minelab shortening the length of their excal warranties.

Submersibles cost the factories MANY $ on repairs and they know it. Fact is, warranty on a submersible, is risky business for the manufacturers. They ALL break and it is HIGH $ to repair them, when they do. Most times, it is OUR fault too! Most companies, like Minelab cover those repairs, but it costs them BIG TIME! Consequently, an ESP(3 years total time), like they used to have, they were losing much money, especially with me, LOL! I guess one year, is all they could stand. Now, it is going to cost me. The fact is, most land units will not even break(over the course of their warranty period), over that same course of time, but a submersible, well that is another story. Fact is, I've broken EVERY BRAND, I've ever used!

Sometimes the necessary repairs are fairly simple if you have a feel for and a bit of experience for working with tools.

Many folks don't and that's OK, but trips to the repair shop can be expensive and will waste valuable hunting time offering insentive to learn how to do the easier repairs yourself.

Obviously not all repairs especially when the unit is still under warrantee should be attempted by a novice.

It does help to know one's limitations!

I realize that this has nothing to do with the company and their warrantee policy.

Just thought I'd pass on my thoughts on the general subject of repairs.

The warranty has nothing to do with the way the Excalibur performs.
They are so good the really don't need any stink'n warranty.

If a detector seal fails while using it and salt water floods he electronics you have a very expensive repair.
In fresh water it might not be so bad.

I don't know of ANY manufacture that actually makes money on warranty repair work so to say they lose money on warranty work is a given.

Doesn't Tesoro still offer the lifetime warranty on their underwater detectors?

Willee, makes you wonder if the company is in trouble. they are trying to save money or something. They are so good the really don't need any stink'n warranty well then it should be a life time warranty. just a thought.

Perhaps, the Excal is so good that people actually use it (alot) and it doesn't sit in the closet! Seriously, the new owners of Minelab have made alot of changes to company policy, only time will tell if all of these are for the better. I really enjoyed working with Dick Shultz and now that he is gone I don't know who to talk to in Vegas. Like everything else in life, Change is the only constant.
