Excalibur ll tips?

dinj3

New member
I just got the new Excalibur ll and I need a little help. I used it for the fisrt time today and it didn't go well. Every time I got a target I would dig and not find a thing. So I guess my qustion is where is the point on the coil the target is under? I think once I find that out I well be ok. This is my first minelabs detector so any help would be great. Thanks Jeff

hello dinj3, be sure the signal is repeatable left and right,if it only beeps in one direction, you need to turn down your sensitivity.you need to set it as high as your ground condition will allow and NOT get false signals.for me this is my settings for my Excal ll...on salt beach..Disc on ,set at 0...volume where it is comfortable for you....sensitivity at 6 in the (salt) water,8 on wet sand....and threshold just where you can barely here it,then down just to quiet.most of the problem's people new to Excal's is they think they need to run the sensitivity too high causing the detector to false signal.try putting a dime on the ground and scan it and learn where the coil picks it up,i think you will see its on the leading edge (tip) of the coil. good luck Bling!

Hey Bling I tried the dime check and it seems the loudest right where the coil connects to the shaft.I really can't believe I'm having so much trouble with this and know one else is. Why do they make this coil so hard to use?. When the donut design is much easier to use. However this design does seem go a lot deeper. Once I figure out where to dig I should be good to go, any ideas? Jeff

I have hunted with the Excalibur mostly in the water. While Hunting in the water sometimes you can not see into the water as visibility is poor. When I get a target I do what they call they call the wiggle moving the coil in a small pattern, where I go back and forth over the target moving the coil from in small steps forwards until I loose the signal. Then I start moving the coil back towards me doing the wiggle until it sounds off again. Then I take one of my feet and put it just behind the coil. Moving my coil I put my sand scoop to the toe of my foot and scoop down into the sand. Most of the time your target will be in the scoop.

Thanks waterdog that's good advice I will give it a try. As I said, this is a strange coil, I'm use to the donut coils. Thanks again Jeff
