EXCALIBUR leaking

Dears owners of Excalibur machine:
now I'm ready for buying the Excalibur machine because I'm listening to the all of the owners the Excalibur machine because they said its a great machine so thanks for them . But some of them also they are talked about the leak problem in this machine so ho can answer and given to us more explain about the Excalibur problem and also if we can make some upgrades to protect our machines. And is it easy to change the standard headphone . Regards

There is no leak problem with the Excal. Every couple years you have to change out the orings. It's all part maintaining your equipment.

It is extremely rare that anyone reports their Xcal leaking.

There are two things that cause the problem and as already said you need to change the o rings around the shafts on the controls.

The other way to get them to leak is have them become very hot from the sun and then dunk them in cold water.

Seems to me that someone that constantly start diss threads on certain brands may have ties with its competitors. Especially total false threads.

It depends on which one of the Excals you have, if you have one of the old NY Sword units chances are its going to leak.
Unlike the newer Excals these old units were built in two pieces. You have the piece with the five knob bushings and then you have the main tube. They are glued together and over time the epoxy breaks down and this is where the leaks occur. Many people believe the leaks occur in the "O" rings but that's generally not the case. It's a crap shoot if you buy one of these old Excals that has not been pressure checked for leaks. Out of the six Sword units I checked I had to repair 4 of them.

Listen to Mel.......... he knows. I did have a leak once on my Xcal II, but then i had every problem known to man with that machine. In its case ....... i believe using a garden hose with to much pressure caused it. These are DIVE machines rated to 200 ft. If properly pressure tested they should not leak. Leaking is one issue were seldom have. I cut a couple of inches off the Xcal label on mine so i could see clearly after every hunt inside the machine. Do you seals....... and you are good. I also put my pods back 4" from the cuff on the straight shaft so most of the time the pods arent even in the water.

There have been two water spills ever to me. In both cases, my own mistake. Once used for old O-rings, the second time I used too small gaskets. The second leak was dangerous because it happen in salt water. Luckyly i can recognize the leak quickly. Opened the tube, and dried out. After thorough cleaning on mainboard, work fine! (corrosion, etc) I love my Excal Blue, robust like an tank:)
Since then I've been more cautious.

MRP:
The world can be divided by twos. There are those who dive with the Excal and those who play in the shallows. There are those who take care of their equipment and the rest of us. Those of us who do not dive really don't have to worry much about leaks if we take a little care to wash and lube, inspecting for damage and aging (that cannot be blamed on the maker). If you are going to dive, you must take professional level care of ALL your equipment.
After 4 Excals (a red, two blues and a green) I have never had a leak and I am not obsessive in maintenance. I don't believe there is a less leak prone water machine and given the production numbers that is impressive. My CTX has not leaked but I sweat and fuss a whole lot more to keep it that way!
Bottom line get the Excal and jump in!
