Excalibur is back...

It was erratic and needed to go in. Second time in a year. It was shipped on 6/24 UPS, and it arrived 7/22 UPS. Something was wrong with the wires from the battery pod. $125.00 plus shipping to get it there. It sat for a considerable amount of time before a tech could get to it but a month turn around is within the ballpark of acceptability.
People were helpful and pleasant at Minelab. I spoke with the tech who fixed it. He explained what he found. He went totally through the machine (Of course they said they did that during the first repair) and now it's equal to spec of a new one. Haven't totally decided but you might see it real soon in the classifieds. My Tiger Shark should be here any day now....Jim

I would be kind of ticked off too as they told him on the first repair that it was went through and then it happens again. They should reimburse him for the S&H. Q: How come it took almost a month by UPS to reach minelab tech?

n/t

Ok, thanks. I misread it

I'd like to know that answer 2.

Looks like mine except the headphones I have are yellow. Maybe I should just send it to Gary next time it dies. He probably doesn't do the electronics anymore because of parts. However, with Minelabs policy not to repair anything over 10 years old, maybe this is a new niche market for some savvy electronics wizzard.

ML contracted Gary Storm to build the first ones. They have the Sword on the side. Mine is serial number 87 and still going strong with no problems. Gary owns Detector Pro, just email him with any questions. Jim

If you sell the Excalibur what you thinking of getting to replace it?

I have tried a lot of water detectors and some of them I liked, some I didnt, but I keep coming right back the the Excalibur as my "Old Reliable" water machine.
It is just too dang hot and the ground too dry down here in South Texas to do much coin shooting.

Glad you are back in service..It has to be bad reading all the Post and see your baby not in the corner. When you get the time, maybe you can post what they found and all the tech said. Always good to know the illness, and the reason. Thanks Obn

Willee and OBN you probably missed the very first part of the post. It was erratic and they found a bad wire that comes from the pod into the electronics. At least it looks like a totally new fitting and strain relief. I may keep it around for awhile as some have suggested, but I have a nice Tiger Shark on the way. Another closet detector never used in the water. Gonna do a lake on Monday early before the lifeguards get there and was hoping to give the TS a try. Don't think it's gonna make it by then.
I've talked with Gary before and surprised as busy as he is he had time to talk with me about the Development of the Excalibur. That entire chapter of inception through development and distribution, and then cutting Gary out of the equation, would be enlightening reading. It's part of the excalibur lore and I expect most don't have a clue about that subject. Well!! I didn't until I talked with Gary about his Headhunter gear.
If there was major interest and the GOV would allow it to be posted, I'd research that and write a chapter about it. Jim
