Excalibur in the Lake Today...

Spent about 5 hours with my waders and scoop in the lake today looking for good stuff. Only found a few coins and a cheap piece of costume jewelry. I have it set exactly like Gulf Hunter suggests and have Grey Ghost headphones. Strange things seemed to be happening. I chased some iffy one way weak signals and found nothing. That was kind of supsected. However I got some short loud sounds that meant something worth chasing when using my Fisher 1280-X, and usually ended up being something. Today I chased a lot of ghost targets. They were there and sounded like a coin about 2" under the sand. Dig and dig and re-check and still nothing. I thought about foil and did see some but it was something more than just foil. Sometimes the detector would null for a long period. There were longer nulls than I had ever experienced. I did bring up some rusty nails but they didn't seem to be the cause of the null. Sort of rambling here but some short loud targets seemed to disappear and there were long nulling periods I hadn't experienced before...Any thoughts about why would be greatly appreciated...Jim
