excalibur in the dark

i was out with my excalibur last night.detecting the wet sand and the tide line. i decided to try under a nearby pier. as i was sweeping i heard a signal and i saw what looked like many little sparks around my coil in the wet sand. i went down a little further and as i got another signal i saw it again. i tried it where there was no coins and nothing but when i went over the coin it sparked again . does this sound normal? has anyone else ever seen this? i only saw this under the pier.(where it was real dark) once i got out from under the pier i didnt see it again. maybe its me.

They are HOT on the beach !!!!!

But Seriously.. I never heard of that Before.. Was there any falsing? Interesting... Sounds like there may be some hairline cracks in the coil..

Was it an actual target or did it turn out to be a false signal? Also sometimes there are tiny jellyfish in the wet sand that will light up when you walk near them or if your coil hits the sand near them. It looks like little sparks but it isn't. But they do not cause a false signal.

Hello,
When I lived in Clearwater (1972) there were times when the bio luminescence would built up in and on the sand. You could swirl it with hand or foot and it would put on a show for you. I think that it is caused by more than jellyfish, although that is probably one things that has this quality there are many more. I saw it up here in the Northwest canoeing in the salt from a shallow inlet on Orcas Island. Each dip of the canoe paddle created a cartwheeling light show. I did some research into it but do not remember much of what I learned about it.

Best,
Steve

I have seen this many times..

What you are seeing is microorganisms in the sand and in the water which emit light when disturbed - there are some jellyfish which will emit light but that's not what your seeing in the sand. I've see this often on dark nights.

thanks guys for all your help . i thought i was going crazy.(my wife still thinks i am) i will try again tonight.
