I recently purchased an Excalibur II (Dec. 2009), after using the machine approx. a dozen times I noticed that when I turn the threshold knob to the off position I hear the click and the machine turns off, however the knob will still turn and you hear a second click and it actually turns on the machine. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a fix or do I need to return it to Minelab?
i have the same problem with my xcal ...after few times my battery discharged i learned to disconnect the battery till i go out again i have been told not to try fixing it my self so i just unplug it
It is always a good idea to leave the battery disconnected till U get where you are going to hunt. That way it won't get accidentally turned on leaving U a dead battery
Sounds to me like the internal stop has broken if it turns past the off, probably a minelab job, especially it being new i would send it in(before the season gets fully underway)at least give them a ring and see what they say
Yep, got the same problem. I also just unplug the battery until I am ready to start detecting. That way I know it hasn't unintentionally turned itself on.
I love the excalibur, but the knobs could have been much better.
I called Minelab, they said I need to send it in for repairs (sounds like the stop is broken like kered said). It is still under warranty, but the min. turnaround time is 20 - 30 working days. This will be a good time to get acquainted with my Spectra V3.
I too have the same problem. I used it as it was all summer. I sent it for repairs about week ago. Minelab called me to let me know they got it and turn around would be about 30 days. Must be a defect in design - hope the replacement switch is of new design!!!!! Also, I broke a knob off (my fault) and fount replacement knows on ebay. A little expensive but nice. Actually have molded in pointer. Makes easier to get accurate settings and to turn the knob. Has a set screw to hold it on and align with start settings. Check them out you may like them. I love my Excel - it finds more treasure and less iron!! Take care.
@ Kochevar, Time4me and tomcatpl, how long (approx. times used) have you had your Excalibur before you noticed the problem with the threshold knob? I just bought mine in late December 2009. I used it maybe 6 times since then before the knob went bad.
