Excalibur II guestions, never used one and thinking of getting one.

1. Factory Shaft or Straight Shaft
2. Which brand of Straight Shaft
3. I understand the Excalibur II's seem to be more sensitive to gold, any opinions

Thanks

1. My wife and I share the Excal ll but we both "hip mount" the control unit on our waist at about our belt buckle location. We use the stock rod with a swingy thingy to make the 7 hour day hunts easier. We also share our Sov. GT with a 10" x 15" SEF it seems as sensitive to Gold as the Excal. The 10 x 15 gets a couple inches deeper, and covers more area per sweep. I can not really address #2 & #3. Both units are fantastic dry and wet sand detectors.

I already have the E-Trac, now leaning toward an Excalibur to use in the water while on vacation at the beach. While at home in Missouri I can go to the fresh water lake beaches and wade them.

Thanks for the Inputs

IMO, hip mounting anything for actual IN the water hunting is quite risky and precautions need to be taken to ensure the cables are not tugged. You will be down at least a month for repairs at Minelab. Is it worth it? I have 3 Excals and they are all on straight shafts like this one, called a Lightning Rod and here is a link to get one.

You mentioned that you would also be running in fresh water back home, so buy the 800. You will need the separation, as it will be trashy. The 1000 will null over all the iron you will encounter and you will miss targets you should be getting.
Excal II more sensitive? Myth I'd say.
