Excalibur II 800 tone issues

I just received the Excalibur II 800 in time for Fathers Day. this is my first water machine. My land machine is a Whites V3i . I honestly cant hear much of a tone difference with the excalibur. I used a Mercury Dime, Silver Kennedy Half Dollar, Clad Penny and an indian head. They all sound the same.

Help

FBS machines with a meter.... clad dimes / quarters come at 180 and penny's / zinc at 177...... with time some can tell the deference........ but hunting in a jewelry prone area you need to dig the clad penny's, because some jewelry falls in in the penny / zinc range.

good luck HH

BK,all the targets you listed are high conductivity targets and are will be around the same tone range.Try a nickle or ring and you will notice a difference. The clad penny and IH will show a on a 180 meter at a 176 reading with an air test and the others would show 180,which is very with little tone change. With a water unit this shouldn't be a problem you don't need to split hairs.Hope this helps.By the way the Excal is a excellent water detector.Good Luck Ron.

I always pass this info along. While it great to know what the tones are they aren't important when on the beach wet sand knee deep water just dig them all. They are good for neck deep water when a 20 minute dig produces a penny. In deep water you need to be able to walk away and be comfortable knowing it wasn't gold! Check this out it works great and it you buy the CD you will truly be able to know what your digging. steve

My son has a V3i and he can't use my Excall because of the tone difference and he does not have the patience to learn them, Take your time and you WILL be rewarded. HH :minelab:
