Excalibur Headphone problem

i went to take my trusty ol' Excal 1000 out to the beach and when I got there and all set up. I couldn't get a threshold sound through the headphones. A little jigglin around and I finally got it and it worked for the hour or so I spent detecting. When I got home I decided to check it out closely. It appears that there is a break in the wire close to where it goes into the earpiece, cant see it, bur when the area from the cols to the earpiece is moved, I get the threshold intermittently, My question is this...I have already bought the pod endpiece with the female kelite connector and plan on selling some sovereign parts I have to buy some grey ghosts for it eventually but what I want to know, has anybody fixed the yellow headphone wire on the headset side? lets say by removing the silicone protecting the ends attached to the speaker, cutting the cable shorter and resoldering then re-silicone. Any suggestions are appreciated. I havent submerged the detector yet (i have a CZ-20 with a lifetime warranty for that) but still wish for it to be submersible. Thanks.

Yes you can cut and splice it, for a tempary fix. I have fixed a few and just cut and splice. I don't use shrink tape but epoxy the soldered joints, then tie wrap them to the black piezo plate then silicon all. It will last until you get your GGUW's. Tip, hold off on the GGUW's for a few months, new one's coming out just for the excalibur. Just like my Skullies...which are still in the testing stages also...

At the top of the forum, skim through the Excalibur Accessories sticky (those threads are always stuck at the top of the forum). There are thread links to various mods or fixes for the headphones, and if memory serves there is at least one thread link that noted that link is concerning fixing a short in the headphone cables among other things. Just skim the descriptions of the thread links in that thread until you run across the proper one.

Hope it does not look like this inside....
