Excalibur Coil Choice?

Dale Simmons

New member
Alright this is finally the week for me to buy my first Excalibur. I am watching several on Ebay, and I have spoke with several people on the forum that have some for sale. My question now is what unit to buy? Do you prefer the 8" or the 10" coil? I live in Jacksonville, Florida. I plan on using the unit primarily at the beach at first. Are there any additional items that I should get for the unit? Any help would be appreciatted.

I'd go with the 10 in coil , unless you are going to hunt very trashy areas, the smaller 8 inch coil can pick through the trash alittle better . the 10 inch will cover more area and go a tad deeper. I have both and to be honest, I use the 10 inch machine alot more , I've never had a complaint .. just my 2 cents worth, good luck

Get the 10 inch.......you can always have the coils changed. I run a 12 inch SunRay on my Excal for better depth and covers a lot more area. Add on a pair of Grey Ghost headphones......best on the market for clarity of sound and muffling out the roar of the ocean.

I'd go with the 10". I have had one since April 07 and love it. I live in Navarre in the panhandle and the 10" will be much better for the beach also. I just sent mine in to have the headphones changed to the grey ghost underwater. I've hated the origonal yellow phones since I've had it. Can't go wrong with the 10" in my opinion.

Ok, I am going with the 10". I ques I will need to buy some type of long handled scoop also. Thanks for all the responses.

Can't wait to get back down there.... I'm staying at your place next time!
