I received my Broken Excalibur back from Minelab 32 work days 54 days away. I am not sure as to how I am feeling right now part of me is pissed and the other part of me happy. I am a reasonable man and when I am wrong I will admit to it. And Believe me I have called people out and was wrong an apologized for it.
Now here's my problem. I put the detector back together and turn it on and what magic to my ears. I am hearing a threshold I have never heard anything like in the 6 months I owned the machine. The volume controls the sound,What? The pin point switch turns with a click and it sounds are different than in discriminate. What? When I set the threshold it holds a nice even tone, even after going over a null returns back to the setting I had before. It's like a different machine than I had before. I remember saying , as I watched beachnut's video's on youtube wow he has set some threshold wish I could learn how to do that. I read Clive James Clynick books on the Excalibur and could not get mine detector to ever do what he says in his book. Change the volume to bring up targets? What the volume changes something? I remember asking people on the beach if there detector did what mine was doing they all said you have to learn to adjust it. Guys were talking about the different sounds they could here nickel's from pennies, pennies from dimes, low tone gold ????? Now I have to say I was able to pick out target as being different at times. I did dig lots of coins gold and silver in 6 months. But I now know I was working hard to do this. Being this is my first BBS machine or even Minelab left me without a clue that there was something wrong from day one. Had the switch not have broken, I would not have learned that the machine wasn't working correctly! I had nothing to compare it too!
I also not new to this hobby I have been detecting since 1974 and in the water since 1980 so I have some time under my belt.
Ok there's my rant tell me I am wrong or not. I can take it. steve
