Excalibur and Batteries

It's a whole new thing to me. I have the NiCads. It's 3 years old and I am not sure how they have been treated by the previous owners. Could be they won't work too long as they have acquired the NiCad memory affect. I looked at the battery pod and it seems with a couple of turns on a screwdriver, you could pop the old ones out, re silicone the o-ring and replace the Ni cads with comparable NiMh batteries. If that's already been explained somewhere please provide a link for me to chase. I did look here and in the modifications forum but did not find anything specific. I have some good battery chargers from HAM radio days and I will be able to vary charge and discharge rates. Your guidance is appreciated.

Greetings,You are correct. Two allen screws and you're in.The battery might
be wedged in,but has a string to pull on.I used an extra long allen key to
hook the back of the battery and pulled it loose. You can get the batteries
at"onlybatterypacks" on ebay,or go to batteries plus and have them installed.
I preferred to do it my self.Just keep it all clean, replace the silica bag ,or a
new one,be careful of the wires when closing, and be sure the seal is straight.
A very slight twist can seat it good.Make sure the battery is in the position
you want it,as it can wedge in and is hard to straighten when all the way in.
If your battery store has done them before, then that is the easiest route.
Good luck on the project. It'll be like new again.HH Joe

Thanks for the info. I just ordered the Nimh from onlybatterypacks. Gonna take the Excal to the Bahamas and don't want to risk the NiCads will hold up. Don't know how they've been treated before. This Excal will have it's maiden adventure in the Bahamas. Going to a really remote island but hope that a common beach has had enough people that it has been 'salted' and that not too many folks have tried to search it. Won't happen for a month but after I return hope to have a picture or two posted, with or without any loot. Regards to all.

Way to go.Just a little note on the batteries again. Align them just right when installing as
they can wedge in thight, and NEVER pull them by the front of the battery or they can
come apart at the middle. They have a plastic sleeve on them, and are soldered together
with a foil between the packs.and can come apart. So don't twist, pull, or wiggle them
form the front.Use the string or hook the back if you need to move them.Best to make
it just right the first time.Good luck with the battery and the trip.HH Joe
