Excalibur 2 sounds

New member
I am confused by Excalibur 2 sounds.
Never used or seen one live and I have a question.
Sounds that it is producing... are they the same in DISC and PINPOINT mode?
Is there a library for them? (accessible without payment)
I found this site
http://www.hunterdepot.com/metal-detector-reviews/minelab/minelab-sovereign-excalibur-target-tones-sound/

What settings do you recommend for salt water shoreline - the line and wading?

Thanks!
Sinisa

In my experience, sounds vary by coil and headphone mostly and a bit by other factors. Blue 1000s are a bit different from Green IIs as well. Keeping your system stable you evolve an ear for what you are swinging over and have a pretty good idea what it is before you recover it.
In general smoother is better, rougher is more likely mixed metal/trash, but I have had huge exceptions where awful sounding targets were fancy gold/diamond rings and foil covered bottle caps sound sweet! It is an art and the best hunters are brilliant, gifted and good looking! I hope I am not projecting too much here.

I was thinking Sounds ... or Tones... low, middle and high tone
are they same in DISC and PINPOINT mode? (For same target)
(Same standard 10" coil)

I have G2 that has one tone for All metal and three tones for DISC mode.

Hi Sinisa, no...the tones that you hear in disc are not also in Pinpoint. Pinpoint mode is single tone and is basically an all metal mode. It gives a high and short signal which makes it easier to pinpoint the target. Hope that helps!

NIce web page, and they sure sound close if not just like. With the excal best to dig all and learn the target history of your regular beach's. Every beach is different so you must adjust as needed. But I go........ 1 on Discrimination.. Sensitivity 12 o'clock .. volume full blast, threshold on/off just audible...and then you have PP/Disc.. which discriminate is best to start out with...

Thank you Tom, Scott and Joe.
I was not sure if that was the case for the Excalibur.
I have gone to the dark side - IT is on the way.

My plan is to work for first 100+ hours in DISC.
And they do it again in PINPOINT and dig everything.

To hunt in pinpoint mode requires the mods. First you need a good set of headphones to hear the minor threshold breaks. The stock headphones just don't cut it. Then you need a trigger installed because the switch on the stock Excal was not made to be used constantly. It will wear out. Of course once the mods are done the warranty is gone. Doing the mods is also a bad investment on your Excal. I invested about 400.00 on the Excal with a carbon fiber shaft, new headphones, and the trigger switch. I had the Excal up for sale numerous times trying to unload it for money to use on a new toy. Long story short....... Nobody wants to pay the money for the mods that were done. They compare the price to new Excals and move on. Oh well. So the moral of the story is get the mods done and use the detector until it dies or don't do them at all. I'll be using mine this weekend.

I agree about the mods and are they worth it. I believe as you say if you are going to keep it for ever, then maybe do the mods.
I had mine done and have about 10 hrs using it so far. I am heading to Cabo for a month, that will be my shake down on whether the mods yield more "stuff" :twodetecting:

You know you maybe better putting the machine back to stock, and selling the aftermarket mods separate.

Good Luck Gerry!! Many expect miracles but really it is up to the user to tweek there skills at PP hunting. Which I believe is a LIfetime journey, I'm still learning every trip out..

I say the mods are part of having the proper machine that ML should have made. Stock stick is crap. Stock battery is junk (no charge meter/indicator? seriously!). PP switch on a pot? I am ignoring the hardwired coil. What do you expect for $1,500? Okay so we fix that and have a killer beach saltwater detector that speaks a unique language, but DELIVERS the booty. My Excals (I have 4, sold 1) still hold their value better than any other detector I have had. My 2 cents (and I dig them even though I don't have to:thumbup:).

:~) Well said Tom. If the truth be known, I won't be selling my Excalibur any time soon, I do like it. I bought a CZ21 as a back up
and continuously reach for the Exc even though the CZ21 is a great machine as well.

The part about selling the Excal is I really didn't have the heart to do it. Sure I had it on the forums and I even had a buy it now on Ebay. But the entire time it was up for sale I was kicking myself. The detector is without a doubt the finest I have used on a beach. I hope to uncover some goodies this weekend. Look out OBN! Heading to OC. Detecting, beer and lies. It doesn't get much better.

Good Luck GoodMore!! Digs us some treasures!!

With %99 of my hunting in the Midwest and not a lot of close by places to hunt I dig all beeps, even if I have to keep gong back to get them all.

But to be fair I am a simple turn on and go guy, been lots of times where I will get a good one and will be asked "what did it sound like" I have to be honest and say i don't remember, beep. ??

Just wondering, am I in the minority or the majority when it comes to water hunting?

(I have been using a Excalibur 2 that I bought new in early 2012)

I'm right there with you, I swear I have only predicted one gold in the last two years..it was a grill. If I did not record my hunts I would not remember any of the gold sounds. Someone asked me last year how deep was the target, what did it sound like and how many scoops. I said I thought it was a sinker, high tone and just 3 scoops deep. I got home and watched the video.. It was 15 plus inch's deep, took me 5 scoops to get it out, and it was a higher tone but still had that mellow gold tone added to the high pitch.

You are correct about the mods, I had mine done a couple of years ago and have found many gold and platinum rings so it has more than paid of itself but you have got to use it. I won't sell mine not only because I use it alot but because people don't want to pay what I have invested....I will use it till it gives out and then I will just get another one because the excal is the best for my type of hunting, now my TDI Pro has it's place, extremely deep, and I won't sell that one either, it finds targets my trusty excal doesn't even know are there, try one and you will see what I mean. HH

I hunt in all metal & check signal with disc. I learned that the machine goes deeper in all metal because it had a fault coil on it from the factory. It had a very erratic threshold but worked better in all metal. It was fixed under warranty over 20 yrs ago & was good till very recently
