Excalibur 2 Charging Question

fsa46

Member
I have a Excalibur 2.

This might be a dumb question but here it goes anyway. Other then the initial charging, which is recommended 16-17 hours, how do you know how long to charge the pod ? Am I correct in assuming that it's not a smart charger, so it won't shut off when the battery is fully charged. Can't you over-charge or undercharge the battery ?

With above charger fully charged when green light goes on. Usually tales 1/2 hour or less after a days hunt

The factory charger does not have a indicator light to tell you when it's fully charged. There are other aftermarket charges that do have indicator lights. Until you get one charge the battery for how ever long you used it for that day. If you have a voltage meter you could check the battery's voltage it should be 14.3 volts fully charged.

Above post has been removed but here is what U want

Input Voltage range:9~15V DC
Step up-down converter, 4~12 cells of 50mAh~3000mAh Ni-Cd or Ni-MH pack can be charged rapidly
Automatic Delta-peak cutoff prevents battery overcharge.
Output port polarity and short protection.
Maximum charge time: 90 minutes safety cutoff.
Charge current:0.25~6A continuous.
Large scale current-meter.
Sturdy aluminum case and heat-sink for maximum heat dissipation.

To answer the question in reguards to over charging. The Excalibur like other Minelabs make use of a thermistor. These little inexspensive device turn off the current when the battery reaches a certian temp. As we all know temp is what kills batteries, or too much temp does. Follow Eric's post and buy a better charger. I did. You can charge faster and have little heat build up thus prolonging your battery! steve
