Maureen

I just purchased the Excalibur II 1000 myself a couple of weeks ago. I have not used it on the beach yet but I have been getting familiar with it on the dry land before my vacation. I am able to criss cross my signals and pinpoint very accurately with it in disc. mode. I'm using the Plugger 2 piece shaft and it is very comfortable to swing,

I don't think you went wrong or could have went wrong with either coil.

Good Luck

I think you made the right choice, you got a Excal!! You may want to get a strait shaft for it..make it easier to handle on those long days. I know of a few women that have the Excal II's and use the 10 inch...they are very happy..Good decision....................Good Luck.............HH...Joe

Very wise decision on machine and coil. Don't forget to get yourself a good long handle scoop. Good Luck and HH :minelab:

Used my new-to-me excal II today, w/10" coil. I wanted to get one with an 8" coil, but couldn't pass this deal up ,espcially considering availability right now. I thought an 8 would be easier to use "inside" scoop-craters when diggin deep targets, the 10 did just fine today with no issues!

I use the 10" hip mounted so all I swing is the coil and rod...light as air and just a tad deeper than the 8. Good luck and cant wait to see some photos!

I thin the 8" coil is the ideal coil for the Excalibur II ... especially for new water hunters.
Makes you go slower ... easier to pinpoint ... faster recovery time.

Thanks guys,

from all accounts it seems it was a good decision and both coils were the same price, the salesman expressed than very clearly so i presume the 8 inch could have been cheaper??? not that it matters i just wanted to make sure i got the best.

What is the hip mounted one? i would like to see a photo of that and can mine be converted to a hip mount? very interesting for a lady carrying the Ex around.

I think i will have the two machines i really love when the new one arrives am off soon for long holiday up to the North of Ozz.

Any help at all is very welcome cheers Maureen..

the excalibur doesn't need converting as it will either clips to a long shaft, or a very short one for the hipmount
these might help

Either way i'm sure you'll manage although on the stock S shaft it will get heavy very quick
