excalibur 1000 vs. excalibur ll?

Have achance to buy an excalibur 1000 for about 700 vs a new exc.ll for 1300 w 2 year warranty. I've done alot of reading and would like some advice. I've read that the original was built better and sought after buy the pros and i understand the new ones are sometimes problematic and have some common problems that seem to be from what I've read that they are just not built as well as the old blue's.........???

Got both, like both (my 2 works great with no problems but then it is from Ireland) but if the Blue is in good shape go for it. I think the tones are better in the Blue and I can eliminate 99% can slaw with the Blue and not even close with the other 2 -Yellow 1000 or the 2

How well you know the used one, that is has it been taken care of, do you know the person selling it well enough to know there is no problem with the used one you will find out first time it goes into the water and it leaks. How old is it and if the battery holds a good charge. A new battery is over $150, if it has to be sent in to be repaired because of a water leak or other problem it looks like they have been from $200 up to repair with some I have read over $500 to repair.
with a new Excalibur II you have a brand new Nickle Metal Hydride battery pack which last longer than the older Ni cad packs, it has the new lighter weight Tornado coil also most like more than the older BBS coil and you have a warranty too so for the first year you don't have to worry about paying big $$$ for repairs. I believe the warranty on the Excalibur's are only 1 years while the other Minelabs are 2 years. Looks like the selling price are around $1200 for a new one versus the $700 for a used one plus if it is a older one like over 10 years old and needs repair they may not be able to as they cant get parts for some over 10 years old. Something to think about isn't it??

For $39.00 and change you can get a battery (NiMH ?) to replace the old one and it will be just like the one in the Excal 2 except for the green color. I have done it in all 3 of mine plus a spare. If itd has the bluse headphones as he stated it will not have a problem getting repaired by Minelab. The most important thing is to make sure you have a steady threshold-if you can try before buy go for it

It all depends on how the machine was taken care of like Rick said .....I was in the same dilema ........I had a guy who had BOTH machines and gave me a choice ........Too many issues with the new ones , and you'ld probably waste a good part of your warranty time in the shop with it .......I went with the older one in good shape , and it's still working fine and no leaks or anyting ... I'm sure now after reading the horror stories on the new ones that I did the right thing !.....Jim

Last Ram 4 me $1000.00 ea to replace both

I've owned two Excalibur II's....the 800 and the 1000. Both worked perfectly and I would not hesitate to buy another. I've had the blue 1000 and it was good too. Not sure about the quality of the tones.......I had no problem with either the older or the newer Excaliburs. I guess it is each persons preference. I've owned four Excaliburs and all of them were top notch machines. YMMV.
