How long after you got it did you need to send it in for repair? What kind of operational and/or maintenance problems/requirements have you had with it? How long did it the original coil last? Any thing else? Thanks Again.

My first one never went in for repair. After 3 years, I got stupid and sold it. I had virtually no problems except a freeturning pinpoint knob. I'm told Minelab has since improved the knobs. My second Excal is out in Las Vegas now, but by design. I'm having a Sunray S12 coil installed on it and I wanted Minelab to install it so it'd be right. I've had no problems with the second one either. Hey, nothing lasts forever, especially things that are designed to be in and around salt water. But in most cases I think it depends on how well you take care of equipment and if you hip mount, you need to be very careful with the battery and coil cabling. For me, two things are important:
1)Hose it down with fresh water after using it around salt and sand
2)Let the battery fully discharge before recharging. I keep two rechargeable batteries so I'm not forced to fully recharge it before a hunt day. This method has kept my two batteries in good shape for two years.

I currently have 2,an older one that I bought used, and it has never caused me or the original owner any problems, the newer one is now 3 years old and is in Las Vegas getting a set of Grey Ghost headphones installed, the original headphones and their replacements were junk.Other than that the only problems were in the shaft that was easily remedied with epoxy glue. They are great metal detectors.
