Excaliber II Battery Charger

I do not like not having a visible aid to be able to tell when the battery is charged. I see an after market charger on the big auction network and on a company web site that will rapidly charge the battery and has visual indicator.

Since it charges so much quicker than the slooooow thing Minelab furnishes I am concerned about over heating the battery.

Are any of ya'll using this charger on the standard battery? If so has it caused any problems like shortening the life of the battery?

I use the Battery Tender Jr from Walmart. Has lights that tell you what its doing and when its 80% and 100% done iirc. I think its like $15 tho you have to adapt the contacts for Excal use.

I've been using the one from only battery packs. Link is here: Excal Charger It looks just like the one on eBay but is a couple dollars less. If I leave the batteries on for a while after the charger senses peak and finishes, they get warm as they continue to trickle charge. Not hot, but warm to the touch; so I keep an eye on it and take the charger off when they indicate fully charged. I can't really say if there is any degradation. I've been using the chargers on the same two battery packs for a little over four years. Short of running tests, the packs seem to take charges and hold charges well and give me more than 8 hours of running time from a full charge. I haven't run them longer than about 8 hours and have not run out of battery.

I've been happy with the charger and the results. Much happier than with the Minelab charger.
Cheers,

The Maxxpac battery chargers are great and wont over charge a 1000 mah Xcal II battery. BUT..... id be careful if you have an older 750 mah because most of them have aged and no longer will charge fully so the charger will keep trying to charge it and they DO get hot and have explored or cracked the pods for some guys. Note their site even says for 1000 mah and above. GREAT charges thou and do shut off on a good battery. If you have the old 750 buy the package and swap them out for the 1500 mah..... those babies dont get hot. But there ...... you can use the old charger on them it just takes even LONGER to charge them because of their capasity. Worth every penny..... ive got a lot of hours on mine now.

Thanks for the info.
