higher sensitivity is counter clockwise but not fully as it will click into auto, also if you try to run it with too much you will lose rather than gain

yep - depending on sand/surf conditions - settings (as on a clock) can range from 11 - 2 or 3 - I'm mostly in noon to 1.

at the beach where I normally hit with my
Excalibur 2 I run mine at sen 10-8 on dial with
disc at about 2-3 and a real clean threshold hum,
this seems to be working for me in salt water at water line,
now at times I've got to adjust sen just a bit plus or minus,
hope this helps,

Discrimination?, I rum the disc at 0.Some run at 2,3 maybe higher. Does running the disc higher change the sensitivity or threshold operation of the unit?

Yes Sand Scoop,
