Excal wore me out.

I decided that I needed a change of scenery so off to the beach I went. In the two weeks since I had been there the beach had gone thru some changes. Lots of sand had been moved and one cut had been filled in for over half its length.

The scenery was Nice. The detecting was decent. The temps were Quite Warm. Water was Rough even though the weather guesser had predicted that the winds would be from a different direction from what they really were.

I spent 8.5 - 9 hours swinging a coil and digging clad and trash. I did get one sterling ear ring.

Hunting the same area where last trip I found four dimes I dug up $8.50 in clad and a large hand full of stinking lincolns/Zinclons.

Also found a $1.00 coin with Mr Washington depicted on the face.

Pretty .925 ear ring joined the party.

I must remember that the Sun burns. I spent much more time that I had planned and burned my Legs Again.

I know what you mean by wears you out.... I use to swing the excel with the wot coil on it at the beach... after swinging in the dry then wet then dry sand that coil gets mighty heavy with sand under the coil cover and sand caked on the outside..i will put a hurtin on ya..... sounds like you had a good time.... im going back to the beach I was at 5 weeks ago for a 5 day spin so we will see how it goes... I now swing the excal in the surf ... if I get lucky I will post when I get back...

I have a straight shaft on my Excal with a 15" WOT coil and it balances perfectly. I think it is an Anderson shaft, but since I bought it a few years back, I don't really remember the brand... nes

Even before I ever put the Excal in the water the first time I replaced the shaft. Even with the standard shaft extended to its fullest extent it was a little too short to be comfortable and having the weight of the battery and control housing on the crooked shaft I found it to be extremely uncomfortable. The balanced straight shaft makes my machine feel much lighter than what the scales claim it to be.

George, you seem to be a hard learner when it comes to that bright thing up in the sky. Maybe youd be better off playing a vampire metal detectorists so you don't get sunburned every time you take the Excalibur out....

Thanks to George's advice, I also have replaced my factory shaft with a straight one. I haven't had it in the field yet, but I can see a Major difference in the ease of handling- its obvious that it wont tire me out as quickly. The weight just seems less.
