EXCAL THRESHOLD (?)

my question is i have a excal with the blue headphones , i turn it on run it just where i can hear the threshold, the tone is one tone but after i run it a few minutes the threshold tone changes i still find targets ,is this common or should i send it in and get it looked at my belief is if this is a problem i could be missing things i want, any help would be greatly appreciated

Can you give us the rest of the settings, pp or disc etc

Not sure exactly how much you mean when you say it changes but it will change some if you go over or near iron for instance, as it will "null out" it will lower or disappear then perhaps sometimes come back at a different level. A quick swipe near the coil with my shovel would bring it back quick if it needed it.

Thanks machine is set as follows :DS, thresh audible, sens.about 11o'clock , discr 10or 11 the tone I hear is a low heavy tone, than for some unknown reason it goes softer and faster it will happen randomly some times when i'm air testing it I had a sovern many moons ago and can't remember it acting this way .......I can send it in they said like 30 turn around closest i can copy the sounds would be burrrr than gurrr if that helps thanks again

Sounds like your disc is too high and you eliminating almost everything then the threshold comes back at the discriminated targets tone, turn it to minimum and see what happens. if you pass over iron you will always get a silence then it will come back with a low growl, anything else should give a tone. Turning the discrimination up more targets will give a null(silence)when the threshold comes back the sound will differ depending on the target you passed under the coil, 99% hunt with 0 disc

In Disc mode
discrimination minimum
sensitivity about 12 o'clock
Volume 80-100%
threshold just audiable

All metal/PP the same but slightly less sensitivity to get a stable threshold

The next time it changes tune try sweeping your scoop under the coil and see if it comes back to normal. Like the other man said, if your coil goes over iron it will null and change sounds. That low growl sound may be a GOOD target as in GOLD dig it. Hope this helps. HH :minelab:

not after a null, its iron/steel
