Excal threshold tone question

Member
I bought an Excal 800 last year. Unfortunately due to life's happenings, I did not use it much more than turn it on and run it through the yard. I have managed several hours out with it this year, and the question I have concerns the threshold tone. I will be hunting along and my Excal starts sounding like a motor boat. I can run the coil over my scoop and immediately change the sound back to the threshold sound I am familiar with. However, every so often the motor boat sound comes back. This sound is also slightly louder than the regular threshold sound. The detector still processes targets, but I am wondering if I am losing the small targets that I can locate with the normal threshold sound? I also would like to know if I can turn my threshold down so this sound is not so annoying.

What does a motor boat sound like?
If the motor boat sound is a deep growl its because you have passed over something iron and it will stay there till you pass over another target, this is normal, turning the threshold down so that its just audable is the way to run if in discrim mode, if you don't like the sound a quick pass with your scoop will change it. You could also hunt in all metal mode

Yes, the motor boat sound is probally the iron signal tone. (I just read the post on the beach forum which explains exactly the problem I am having.) Having read the post, I have a couple of solutions. Thanks for the help.
