Just made a shaft for the Excal for diving and now I want to not use the stock shaft and go to a straight shaft. I am going to build it from some materials I have here and have my own hobby lathe/mill, and TIG welder so I can weld aluminum. My question is where do the Excal's battery pod and electronics pod go to get the good balance? In relationship to where the angled hand hold is how far back do you think the electronics pod should be attached? Because of where you arm lays to grab the handle the pod(s) have to be mounted under your arm rest area somewhere. How would you suggest mounting the pods, not mechanically I can figure that out, but should I have them upside down directly underneath (vertically) the arm rest area or should I still have them under the arm rest area but mounted horizontally? I have seen after market shafts made in lots of configurations and am wondering what you think is the best fit. This is a fun project and it will even be nicer when I use the shaft I built easier than I would with the stock shaft. Regards...Jim.
