Excal Shaft

Sand Scoop

New member
I like to change out the shaft on my Excal II for one that I can have better control. I'm doing a lot of water hunting in the Myrtle Beach area and wave action is tiring the Ol arm. I looked at the one Pro Scoop sells.Looks like it might be what I need. Any suggestions?

Hi sand scoop i have seen a guy in a fisher book who detects the great lakes in canada who uses a set up like the ones on a lawn edger with both hands on the handle bars and uses his hips to swing not his arms .terry in oz:twodetecting:

i use a strait shaft and body mount the Excal..if you leave it on the shaft there is a lot of resistance in the water.Anderson strait shafts are good .i use one made by Plugger and love it!

Thanks Papa.. Knob guard IS next for sure On the end I plan on using a End Cap Stanchion Cap of some sort so I can tether it to myself

Well That was an added "Comfort" Expense... I was using the Original excally arm cuff.. But I just didn't like the Fit..... and instead of buying a cheap no frills arm cuff and fabricating something....

I elected to Buy a Minelab Sov GT.. Generic Arm Cuff, Strap, Neoprene Cover Through Kellyco... This Arm Cuff is the Bomb for Comfort..IMO..

Here's the part numbers if you'd like.. I got them from Sandra Burton "Minelab" I do know other dealers carry them aswell But some just don't stock them... And every Dealers prices are the same..

From Sandra Burton:
Generic Arm Rest will work the part number is 8001-0014 and the Neoprene will fit on that and the part number for that is 8001-0012.

Just make sure you use a quick release device to tether it. I have been caught in rip tides, and trust me you want absolutely nothing tied to you in that situation.Over an hour of swim time to get back to shore. But that was my mistake, it will never be made again. HH

A Quick release is A Most Definite Needed Item whenever your in the water.... As-well as Understanding your environment...

Safety is Top Priority.... And Being safe and Not Losing your equipment is a Must also...

If I feel uneasy about hunting certain areas either due to Currents, Or Hole underwater, Not knowing if there's a drop off... I would just take precautionary measures...

I've learned of Quick releases the hard way... Having to drop my weight belt during a dive many miles offshore.. Without Panicking... which is a whole different scenario... when you think your not going to make it to the surface for air....

It's a Common sense approach.... Don't let yourself get into a harmful situation.....
