Excal question

I just got a used Excal 1000 and put it together yesterday but the cable is pretty long. Do you wrap the completely around the shaft ? It seems like some fo the cable was left hanging becuase the first foot and a half has the loops but the rest does not.

Also i did some air test. I set to a smooth audible threshold, when i passed a nickle or dime or gold across coil it would sound then go back to smooth threshold.But if i passed a screw (Iron) it would null but it would go to a buzzing threshold until i passed a coin or a non ferrous metal over it then it would return to smooth. Is that normal?

the threshold tone will frequently change while detecting,some times I run it past my scoop to return it to a tone I like. The cord, take the plastic bolt out to disconnect the coil from the shaft and then wind the cable around the shaft so it conforms evenly, you may have to spin the coil once in a while to get the cable to cooperate

Yep that's normal. You should wrap the cable around the shaft till it is snug. Then get a couple tie wraps or velcro to hold it in place. Also I would suggest running in all metal mode or Pin Point. It will get those really deep signals you normally miss searching in DISC mode. Find targets in pin point (PP) then switch to Disc to check. Then back to PP to search. Check out Olebeachnut on you tube. He has some pretty good videos on how to set up the Excal.

I bought a new X-Call in July .It had a couple bugs in it. I called the company cryed very loud and long. X-CALL sent me a new unit in a week.If you have any doubts call them the where very help full.thanks to John Watson and Ewit.
