Excal P/P switch frustration

So I want to put a switch in the typical bike handle but am having trouble finding a good switch. I went to an electronics store and got a round rocker type switch for $4.95 and it was flakey out of its packaging and the heat from soldering killed it. Next I bought this push button switch online and it won't work because it has to be pushed down pretty far to latch, will fill with sand and seize, and again just soldering to it may kill it. So what are you guys using for a switch? A toggle is fine at this point. It will get it wet but I will not be submerging it in normal use.

and never had a problem. It has two sets of contacts NO and NC. The set you use will depend on how you wire the switch. You can buy them from Digikey.

Thanks Mel. Do you buy the clear boot for it too? Gets to be a pretty expensive switch but I guess that's what it takes.

I use this one.....https://www.digikey.com/products/en?WT.z_header=search_go&lang=en&site=us&keywords=CW202-ND&formaction=on&x=6&y=19

Ive had this on all of mine for several years now. Ive only had one fail. Joe told me to remove the boots and allow water to flush the sand. I had a boot on mine and salt water and sand got in and over time it wiggles its way into the switch........ no so if you take that boot off. I put in a LOT of hours out there and mine is underwater most of the time. I like the nice pretty switches everyone is coming up with...... but these are simple and proven.

I think the switches come from France and they are about $16 each.

Hundreds of hours per year, most submerged. Saltwater. I constantly toggle since I'm a PP hunter and check targets. The back must be sealed 100% with epoxy. Have not used a boot for a few years now, best just to rinse after the hunt and silicon once a month.

Put a quantity in the box and hit the "check availability" button. It says planned ship 6/14/2017; so I don't think they will be very far out before they are in stock.

That is not a ip68 or ip69.
I installed a push button from digikey it is ip68.
Works great, been using for a month now with no problems.
Hit me back and I will get the part # to you.

Revisiting this as I am building a second detector. The majority of switches I come across for some reason are only momentary on.
Isn't it preferable to have a push on push off type?
