excal nulls.

will the excal null on deep gold? if a gold ring is just at fringe detection range for the excal will it null?
chuck.

Ive checked some deep ones Ive found while hunting in all metal, checked them in disc and sometimes they null, sometimes they are too deep to even register a null.

Yes, and as Neil says, sometimes things don't even register for a null in disc mode, hence i use all metal most of the time, that way you don't pass over things not knowing they were there.

If you are hunting a fairly clean area running in PP can give you a couple of more inchs in depth. Anything that breaks your threshold check it out. Sometimes you have to remove a scoop or two of sand before the machine will respond in Disc. Try it. The people that say it does'nt work have not tried it. HH :minelab:

thanks guys. i am going to use pinpoint mode exclusively for a while. i knew about removing a little sand to get a correct id or switching to disc, but i was thinking it might still id as iron if a fringe target. time for some field testing.

In addition to many of the great posts above.PP allows a faster sweep if you tend to be a runner. If you hunt a long enough time in PP you can hear the difference between gold and other good target. In just a few days you can tell between iron and a good target. Rarely will you need to dig a double beep. There are times they have a quirk about them that makes you dig them.I have been surprised and found gold crosses.(weird shape) If you are one who has to hunt in Discriminate and just don't believe in PP
( there are those who feel if they are going to hunt in all metal why the hell did they buy a discriminate machine)
Then at the very least make sure you check nulls that go high and not go low and growl! And if you tent to run then all nulls need to be investigated. This isn't to say that you can't set the Excalibur to go fast in discriminate, it can be adjusted to a fast moving sweep.
(not how it was designed)
The best advice that can be giving with any detector is LOW AND SLOW!
