Excal Nulling

Alright guys, my Excalibur is here and I have my first question. Is it okay if the threshold nulls when the coil is lowered to the ground? There are no targets in the ground it's just the ground itself. I have a minie ball buried at 7" that it wont detect except for in pinpoint mode. Otherwise it seems to work. We have tough ground here.

That does sound tough. Make sure that your Disc is set to it's Min (1). Start off with your Sens set at 12:00 (6), adjust it until Threshold is stable. Make sure that there is no iron in the ground that you are detecting over, go to PP mode to check if you get a signal. Threshold set to where you can hear it. Walk around the area in Disc mode and swing the coil slowly and evenly over the ground, adjust Sens and Thres if necessary. Move back over your mini ball in Disc to see if it will hit, try in PP mode again to verify. Make sure battery is charged. Do you have the 10" or the 8" coil? I think the 8" will handle the ground a little better than the 10". I have the Excal ll will the 10" and it will scream on a mini ball at 7", even doing an air test.

If you adjust your settings like SK said , and theres no targets in the ground , and it wont pick up the mini ball in disc. , you must have a ton of iron in the ground where you live. weird !

This ground is red from natural iron. It's like trying to detect through a sheet of rusty tin. Normally non ferrous things in the ground here will read as ferrous so any discrimination above iron will cause a lot of missed targets. My Excalibur at disc 1 will reject small iron so that's where the minie balls read on a metered detector here...thus why it picks up in pinpoint mode And not in disc. The PI machines work best here but the Excalibur is supposed to be the best water machine so that is
what I got. Our beaches are different soil so maybe it will do good there.
