Excal NiMH Packs...

Crash620

Member
Anyone know why Batteries Plus doesn't make a replacement NiMH pack, but only replaces the cells on an existing pack. Do the packs contain a voltage regulator or something of the sort?
Regards,
Keith

The cells they replace are NIMH batteries. The factory Nicad pod and the alkaline battery pod are identical. The only thing different is the sticker on the outside.

The Excal factory pod has a small thermal cutoff device, 1/2 the size of your fingernail. That's in case the battery pod overheats on charge and stops it from starting a fire.

If you take them your old pod, they'll rebuild it along with the thermal cutoff for $39.95. You can use the alkaline pod as well and it WILL be just as waterproof as the factory pod.

I guess its the thermal cutoff device then.. Being that my unit is new, I didn't want to scrap the new battery pack just yet (even though it is NiCd) and was just looking to have a new NiMH pack made (as opposed to a rebuild) to put into the Alkaline pod as a spare.
