Hello I am new to the excal been a Whites man for many years but wanted to try this famous machine I keep hearing about.
I have a few questions is there a way to NOT run disc other then in the pinpoint mode or am I wrong?
also running dis on 1 what does it disc if anything?
and finally is GOLD always a low tone ?

Thanks for the help

Discrimination or Pinpoint

It discriminates iron

depends on size, and purity could be foil tone or nickle tone or high tone if pure.

Just like on the White's, gold can have a tone anywhere from the low to very high, depending on the gold content and the size/density of the object.

There is no variable iron rejection like on some White's and Minelab detectors, but if you are on the beach you will have no problem hunting in All Metal/Pinpoint and then switching to Discriminate to check the target. If it nulls out in Discriminate it is iron, if the threshold does not change it is a deep target too deep for the Discriminate channel, and many times will turn out to be a good one. Setting the discriminate at 1 will only discriminate iron and tiny bits of foil.

Neil, That's an interesting and eye -opening bit of info that I never considered. I wonder if that's why I'm not doing as good as I thought I would, or is it just my lousy luck?
