Excal II weak signals

flyboy5

New member
Hi guy's,

Probably been asked a thousand times, but i am new to the Excal (previously PI user) I have not found any gold yet, i was exactly the same with the Dual field until i found a ring then i was ok with the confidence.

My question is:

I search in PP then check in Disc, if i encounter a weak signal in PP what am i listening for? (i know a weak signal :)) is it a click, a fart, a warble?? I have been listening to the BETFE cd and that has helped, more so on the drive to the beach it will come into its own, but just to satisfy my curiosity....

Until i find the gold i will be thinking ' do i dig or dont it dig, I usually dig everything but its getting to the point where my back is in bits

Cheers

Steve

Is your Disc set on 1 or higher,,,,,set it on one,,,,,,gold is a definite low tone,,,,,no clicks, farts or warble,,,,may just take awhile but one day you will see that gold color in your scoop,,,,
I use Disc
Threshold,,,,,,,,,slight tone
Volume.............All the way up
Sensitivity..........about 1 o'clock to 12 noon
Disc..................set on 1
good luck hunting also toss a ring in the sand and go over it,,,,,,,,,

Brilliant,
Some of the beaches here in the UK are quite stable, These are my settings:

PP mode
Volume - full
Threshold - slight buzz
disc - 1
Sens - auto (do i need to put this in manual / will i loose depth in auto?)

Thanks guy's
Steve

Take it out of auto...for sure..start at 11 o'clock..if your hunting in PP, What you are looking for will be a disruption of the threshold...like in the video...........................................................once you have found a deep target, like in the video.........don't dig it..............., play with your settings to get the best signal from this target...adjust the sensitivity down to 3 oclock checking with each setting,.............then turn it up slowly until you get the best responce, try different swing speeds on this target........I have found a little fast swing speed work where I hunt, could be different on your beach........ work the DIALs to get the best results. Depth is only part of the puzzle to finding treasure.........

I see what you mean, i was shocked at the guy using his sens as low as 3 o clock!!

I will be getting out over the weekend hopefully, so i will try your settings

Thanks again

Steve

Sometimes your sand/soil conditions will only let you go up to 3 o'clock , at which point your better off going to Auto ....Jim

i dont go into auto mode, just listen closely for those changes then dig them all..

Glue a nickel to the inside of your left boot to get the tone, hunt in disc, sens about 1 o'clock disc on 0-1 volume max and threshold just a low hummmmmm. Dig it all till U have a zillion hours on your machine Eventually U will run the coil over a gold ring-it is all in the luck

:rofl: ......A zillion hours ? .......:rofl: .... Poor guy will be a great grandfather before he finds his first Gold ring !!......

I always thought that you should hunt in PP as sometimes, i get a signal in PP, check it in Disc and there is no sound. I have to scrape away about 3 inches of sand before i get any audio, I then dig it, purely out of curiosity and its been a coin VERY deep. I think you lads that only search in Disc maybe loosing targets?

Agreed, those that hunt only in Discriminate are loosing out. But it really depends on the hunting grounds also.If your in a iron infested area you can't hunt PP. I have had the Excalibur only 1 year, for the first 6 months I hunted discriminate after watching several of Max's video's talking with Surfdigger and hunting with Bruce from Surfdigger's video's, I have started hunting in PP and switch to check the target. I have turned what would have been a poor day at the beach to a great day coming home with gold. I have walked on to the beach and saw ................. well some hunters doing the ho hum there's nothing to be found stare at me, and good luck pal! After seeing me start digging coins. They come down to see what's up. Like others here I try and pass the info on. I find a target and let them scan it. They get nothing, tell them to switch to PP sometimes they hear it sometimes not. Dig it up and it's a quarter. Then I get the argument why have a machine with Discriminate and hunt in Almetal and dig trash all day. As Max has shown in countless video's you can tell trash from good in PP it just takes time to learn. You can't fix stupid.

One important factor that you mention is the beach one is on ........On the beaches that I frequent, if I go to PP mode to hunt , I would cover MAYBE 20 sq ft in a DAY !!!...... There is just too many targets to go thru ....As it is I probably dig appox 50 to 100 pull tabs in just a few hours thinking it might be gold .... There's plenty of iron to go around too !!.... Another thing is the fact that in bad weather , the beaches that get a big surf tend to cleanse themselves better , and there are layers of CRAP taken away for a temporary time , and you get down to the lower sand to hit targets that you couldn't reach before ..... I listen to some of the video's that Joe and the boys put out, and they can sweep a few times and walk 10 ft and not hear a thing ...If I did that by me , I would have heard at least 10 targets in each one way sweep !!!...... Hunting in Discriminate or PP really has a lot to do wtih the beach you are hunting on ......Jim

That is also very true. You do only cover very little beach. That may not be such a bad thing though! I walk 1500 ft between spots that I regularly find lots of targets. But when I get to that spot 50 coins and?? I read back in the 1980's of guys walking on the beach going to on one two spots pulling gold and going home in 1hr. I thought that sounded crazy! But now after hunting the same beaches for 30yrs I can walk to spots and pull out my fair share. On new beaches I do random hunt till I find a spot. I see hunters come and go during the time I am at the beach because they walk to damn fast not only for the conditions but any conditions. Thank God for little things like that. One of my last hunts before it got cold I covered 200 ft of beach in 4hrs I dug every signal I heard. I brought home so much trash my arm hurt I also dug two nice pieces of gold. I would never would had heard them in Discriminate or walking at any pace! Those two pieces were four scoops down. There's a place for many techniques. I do like low and slow some days.

I guess with the multitud of targets on the beaches that I hunt , I'm the guy that you see walking down the beach with a wide swing, making as much tme as I can , and coveriing as much ground as I can ......There's too much competion here in NY to just stand and hunt a small area ..... Search the cut , try and hit the lane at low tide , and hope for the best .....I would never find any gold moving slowly .....Ya snooze ya loose around here !!...... Move it , or loose it !!.......JIm
