Excal II stiff control knobs

New member
Is it normal for my excal II control knobs to be real stiff to turn? I purchased it new and it has been like this since day one? Anything I can do to make them feel a bit smoother or easier to turn? It feels like the want to twist off them instead of turn the potentiometer? Will it loosen up with use? I bet I don't have 20 hours of use on my excal, Is there a sorta break in period ?

They are normally stiff, In the water while hunting you do not want your settings to change from being too loose.

This is a shaft coming thru an O-ring, To seal the adjuster.

If you pop off the yellow caps, there is a nut there you can lossen or tighten them........

If it really bothers U, U can get replacement knobs on e bay or Radio shack that are larger, have a pointer & R easier 2 turn

Mine knobs are tight, but then if you lossen then, they will probably let water in around the knob and then to you circuit board.

( Hint ) I visited Minelab when I was on Vacation in Las Vegas ) I use an Excaliber thats a few years old. Most everyone will buy the o-ring, but never think about the flat rubber washer. on the older Detectors. I bought spares while I was there. One day this will be an obsolete part, just like the battery connectors on the X S-Pro Soverign,goldnugget-Charlotte,N.C.
