Excal II question for Floridabill and others

I was checking out some older posts from last summer, and I see that a number of people were having trouble with the new Excal II. The general opinion was that the new redesigned coil( mainly 10"?) was the cause of so much of the erratic behavior when it hit the water that new purchasers were experiencing. Also some thought it was a misunderstanding of the proper way to set the sensitivity control. I noticed that you(Floridabill) mentioned that you had bought 3 and sent them all back. Can you or anyone tell me if this remains an issue? I have been seriously considering saving up for one, especially after seeing some of the videos of them in action. Thanks a lot for any input that can be provided on the current situation on this product.

it was awsome!!! i should have never sold it.im $75 away from ordering another new one! had no problems with mine at all.

Here's a few other questions on the E-2 - 10", I have one and notice the thresh-hold that I have to turn almost to the far right to get a slight hum, but after a little while I then have to back it down. Also that a target hits hard, but after swinging the coil over the target it seems to want to detune it or go to a softer tone. Is this normal on this machine? My GT and also a regular Excal 8" does not do this. What is the difference in the two machines? I was thinking no difference but coil weight and color.

It is my humble opinion that the 8" coil is the better coil for most people.
If you can find an old SeaSearch coil ... even better.

I purchased the E-2 and hit the beachbut had a lot of problem with the sensitivity. I have used Excals since the 90's and never had the problem. I sent the detector to Minelab and was told I had a bad coil and board. When it came back it still didn't perform correctly so I contacted Robert at Minelab, seems I had another bad coil and board. After robert repaired it I have had no problems and the machine works better than any of the old Excals. I goes much deeper but the tones are slightly different. I really like it.
