Excal II on the way

Habanero

Thanks all for the great advice on here regarding my choices between the excal, cz21 and tiger shark. While all are likely great detectors, I've always wanted and Excal so I have one coming. After some PM's from members I decided to buy new on the water machine. I know it's only a year warranty but thats a year and I know what I have when I buy new. Got the 10" coil model Excal btw, better coverage. It will be a freshwater detector most of the time but now I at least have some reasons to be trying to get down to the coast more often! I'll likely just keep the machine stock until the warranty is up then look at adding a pinpoint mod, maybe some better headpones. I will go ahead and get the Anderson straight shaft right away though as well as knob protector. Any good reading to start with besides the manual before she arrives at the door step?

Plenty of good reading here .... http://www.findmall.com/list.php?21

Congrats on your new purchase and HH - Daddy

Congradulation-Great Choice on the Detector- Another best choice will be the addition of the Knob Guards and a Good Scoop. goldnugget-Charlotte,North Carolina

Thanks, hoping to get out to a lake in the morning to give it a first hunt.

Another good addition to the Excal II is a Straight shaft. It gives the detector much better balance and does not wear your arm out nearly as quickly. Carbon Fiber is the best choice as sand in the Aluminum shafts can get the lower shaft stuck and it is not easy to get it free. Wash gently after every use. I take the lower shaft out and use a good strong solid stream of water to wash as much as possible up inside the upper shaft. About every month or two I use a gun cleaning brass brush to scrub the inside of the upper shaft. I was a bit too thrifty and purchased the aluminum upper shaft instead of the Carbon Fiber.

The Excalibur II is a great machine. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Congratulations.on the new machine.

I think you made a very good choice plus any issues most of us around here can guide you in the right direction. One thing about the machine, with the mods after warranty runs out it becomes a Monster!
