Excal II off to Vegas

I got to hunt for a few hours here on the beach in NC yesterday. My new Excal II (3 months old) ran great before lunch. I came back after lunch and turned it on, and got nothing. I had charged my battery the night before, so I didn't think it was a power issue. What I found out, was that If I applied a slight bit of downward pressure on the threshold pot, the machine would fire up. I could hunt for a random amount of time and the machine would go dead. There appears to be a short in the threshold pot. I talked with a tech at Minelab and he said it sounded like a bad solder joint. I kind of bummed, but I still love this machine. Minelab estimated the turnaround time at about 2 1/2 weeks not counting ship time. At least I'll have it back when the water warms up. I was able to find about 2 bucks in clad and my first titanium ring.

Got my Excal used on the forums here about 2 months ago, (Thanks BJ in OKL) Great machine! I have a Sovereign Elite also so getting used to the tones was no problem. Sent the Elite to Minelab to have it checked out, took 1 month just for them to look at it ! They told me a couple of weeks also. Since yours in for warranty repair maybe they will get right on it. I heard they have 3 techs now so maybe the turnaround time is quicker. If you want it back sooner call every week to check on the status on the repair as I think it helps.
Still haven't got any gold or silver rings yet, plenty of clad. Looking into getting a straight shaft now as my right arm is getting a real good workout.
Happy hunting........ >)))'> surf fisherman
