Excal II - new nut /bolt assembly upgrade for coil/shaft

Barry NY

Taking the advice from Gulf Hunter and am in the process of upgrading the cheap bolt assembly for the coil ears and lower shaft from the stock 1/4" x 2" commercial grade (6/6 nylon) black bolt and wing nut to a custom made unit (from www.craftechind.com) which is a 5/16" x 2.5" super strong nylon with 30% fiberglass filled, black, Knurled Thumb Screw with matching Knurled Thumb Nut for the other side. Of course, you will need to drill out the coil ears and shaft opening slightly to accommodate the extra 1/16". As a FYI, KellyCo quoted $8.95 for the stock cheap crap replacement - bolt and wing nut. I had to buy 25 sets of this for the custom run, so if anyone is interested I can send some out at my cost which was about $8.00 for each set with postage. Should arrive in about 10 days. Let me know if interested. Thanks again Gulf Hunter for the great advice.

You are welcome Barry, hope you can sell those units, there are a lot of folks who need em, if they are still running stock. Why did you get such a long length, to accomodate the knurled thumb nut? Sounds like an even better set-up than mine, real clean, take a pic later and post it up here, I like it!

Scott - Yes, I added the extra 1/2" to accommodate both the knurled thumb nut (which is about .4 inch) plus left another 1/4" to accommodate some sort of a coil "angle support device" should I need to add it. The stock 2" bolt barely puts 1/4" out on the nut side - that's just not enough to get a real tight fit.
The sets should be here early next week. Will post the pictures when I get them set up on the unit.

K, sounds good. I doubt an "angle support device" will be necessary with the larger bolt, should hold fine. Remember to keep fresh teardrops on there too. Lets see it, when you gitter done!
