Excal. II and interference

954hunter

New member
I gotta relate this story about an experience I had last night. While beach hunting (trying to learn my new machine) I started hearing a sound like a U.F.O.sneaking up on me and found a beach hunter using a Excal.I within an arms length of me, figuring that the noise I was hearing was interference from his machine I continued about my business, but he kept coming back for the next two hours.........It didn't bother the Excal. II too much , just made me have to let him pass when I was trying to pin point, finding targets wasn't a problem. Are the any tricks of the trade to running two Excals. close together, wouldn't you think he was experiencing the same thing and would make an effort to keep clear of me?
The presence of his detector could be felt 15 yards away.

That is the problem that you will have when two detectors running on the same frequencies get too close together. You have to stay far enough apart that you don't bother each other.
Any interference that you can hear will degrade performance to some degree. There is also interference that you don't hear that is also going to degrade performance.
As long as both detectorists have no option to switch frequencies the way we can with the GT and Elite, it's best to keep as much distance as possible.

Might be a good idea next time to just take a break and let the guy go by until you don't hear his detector anymore.
