Excal Died!

Pancakes

New member
Took my Excal out for a hunt on Sunday at the Jersey Shore...here's a pic of my finds. And...right after I found the Skull and Crossbones, my Excal died! No Joke! It wouldn't keep a threshold, and it was bouncing all over the place. Hopefully it was just a dying battery, I put it on for a long charge, and re-tested in my yard and it was stable. Gonna try again this weekend, crossing my fingers that it's stays stable.

sounds like battery to me, my old excal and xs2apro do the same with excalibur ll i get the 30 second screach

One of mine did the same thing the other day after hunting about 3 hours Took it home and hooked up the Sun-Ray SR-12 charger where I could discharge the battery almost to dead and then re charge. Working fine again now. I find that with the older batteries (that can take on a memory) U have to do this from time to time. Don't know why but this battery is about 4 years old

Another of the problems nicad and more so nimh batteries have is the self discharge, if you haven't used the detector for a month or so since last charge its always better to charge the night previos or in the case of nicad discharge then recharge

Thanks for the replies...the unit is only 7 months old, bought brand new so I have the NiMH batteries. I only charged it for about 5 hrs before I went out, I put it on charge for about 12 hours and took it in the yard, it seems to be ok...going to charge it again for 12 hrs before Sat, and see how it reacts in the salt water.
