Excal Battery Pod Question

New member
I am rebuilding one of my Excal battery pods and making one with NIMH batts. When I took the original pod apart, it was a GP Nicad, PN GP70AFK10W1H pod, rated at 12v, 700mh.

There is a small square metal "box" on the battery pod, in series with the 12v positive lead that looks like a current limiting device of some type but it reads a flat short and no resistance at all. Is it some type of filter? Torrid coil?

I called Minelab and the lady said that she thinks it was a current limiting device but she wasn't sure. Anyone know what this little jewel is?? Again, it is in series with the positive battery lead.

Then we wouldn't have to become self trained metal detector technicians. If they create enough of us they're liable to spawn a competitor. Dummies!
Sorry, my strength isn't in electronics, so I can't help you out mate.

Good Luck,

Batteries Plus will sell me a NIMH battery pack that fits for $40. It is also twice the MH hour rating than the stock battery pack.

Hi goldringer i make up battery packs for my sovereign and i agree that minelab for some crazy reason still only make up small capacity battery packs the ones for the excalibur are now available in 4500mah imagine how long they would last ?, but if you go to greater capacity you must also c:twodetecting:hange the charger but!!!!!.terry
