Excal battery end caps advertised online auction

The add says:
"made in the USA by VOLT MASTER of superfine plastic hot pressure injected solid piece same specs as stock end caps these can be used to replace a cracked battery cap or use for headphone disconnect system they are UV resistant will not turn yellow or crack under normal use"

So that is what is advertised. I did some searches and all I find for Volt Master are an electric motor maker and a couple of electrical wiring contractors.

Anyone out there have any more information or insight?

I seen those, and the other 4 as a lot sale..last I looked, that one pictured was 43 dollars and counting. Check his past sales, lots of minelab parts, maybe a ex minelab employes storage locker? I ran into a dead end on the voltmaster also...There is a small market for the endcaps, think I've got 40 people pm me about these over the last 9 months. OT is hot on this, should have some do ables by early spring, he said.

It would be nice to be able to get our hands on those.... as well as the pods.... reasonable.

There might be a great deal more interest if someone offered the endcap with a set of the modified head phones, Ikelite connector and the soft gel ear pads. Many might feel more comfortable if they could easily change their machine back to the original configuration should they decide to sell. I think the ability to move a single set of custom headphones from one machine to another would be appealing.

I will be back on the endcaps probably starting Monday,15 October or shortly there after.

Thanks for the info from all. I knew of otlew's project. Seeing the e-bay connector just had me wondering if there was an alternate source where we may be able to go directly to someone already set up for injection molding them. I suspect the e-bay price is making a nice profit if you discount the tooling effort ... not a small effort to discount!

The pictures OBN posted of one of otlew's prototypes looked like a lot cleaner molding that the one on e-bay. I tip my hat to you on how clean the prototype looks!

There are still some kinks to iron out in this project. The main stumbling block is shrinkage of the cast part, after research I feel I know what to do to correct the issue.

Since the original parts of polycarbonate (trade name Lexan), I believe, to do injection molding would be tricky due to the plastic's high melt temperature. There are plans available to make a small low capacity injection molding machine but, such machines are not really suited for injecting polycarbonate, however lower temp melt plastics could be used. I wouldn't resort to injection molding unless necessary.

Once I have a field test piece, and I expect that to be soon, I will let the forum members know the results. Depending on work, a month is a reasonable time frame.

Interesting info on the person ebaying the endcaps and Who has sold many other Parts related to min@$a%'s that only a employee would have access to..A Guess on my part but apparently a ex Las Vegas employee .......his words on one of his resent auctions...........

Explorer surplus pc boards, coil ,connectors the coil is missing the connector its in the bag with the rest of the connectors I am not going to bother putting it on buyer pays shipping, no echecks......
words of wisdom .When a CEO Tells his workers something or makes promises it is worth about much as a fart in the wind, these words you can take to the bank which is about all you will have left after they screw you over.

The female end cap is fairly easy to find......just buy an alkaline battery pod. The male part is the one I am having trouble finding. Seems that no one has the male end that I need to make a set of removable headphones for my Excalibur.

I bought one of these and ended up paying $40 including shipping. Ill let you know how it holds up. I also emailed him and since ikelite has discontinued the 4101 he has molds now to make those as well. he is testing them and expects to post some up on ebay soon.
