Excal 800 Question

Hello fellow Hunters. I bought an Excal about 2 months ago and I have used it a few times. I noticed that after a few moments of a regular type of threshold I get this very loud buzz from my machine. no matter what settings I use it always comes back.....this happens in Auto, Manual on all settings of Sensitivity, etc.... is this normal?

It will sound off though when I go over a target, but I find myself running my coil by my scoop all the time to make it stop, but it comes back pretty quick. this is being used for fresh water right now...

If the battery is low the alarm will make a loud siren every 30 seconds.

Also, the pitch of the threshold holds the last target seen.

Beyond those two things I don't know what would cause that, unless you've got a random short in the coil cable or some other internal problem with the Excal.

Hello Looknforgold,

I believe what you are trying to describe is the altering pitch in the threshold. It goes from the "high hum" to a "lower hum" the lower hum seems louder due to its pitch (i believe).

This is quite normal. Whats happening is the detector is sounding off at the tone of the last target it went over.

Could be you have nulled over some iron and then the threshold takes that value (Tone).

It is listed somewhere in the manual i will see if i can did mine out for you.

I am sure someone here can probably explain this better than i have :geek:

Pitch Hold is used on several of MLs machines. Originally designed for gold hunting so you didnt miss weak signals. Like was said it changes over the last target..... it will also change if you are running high sensitivity in salt water as it runs over the coil.

LFG,

You are going over something that is changing it; possibly even mineralized soil - but yes, this is pretty normal as the others have described. If you have the manual, read it, or get it from the Internet - it took me some getting used to it, but now I'm comfortable with it.
