Excal 2 ,Eat your heart out,Infinium kict your A#$@ !!!!!!!!!

I have never owned a Minelab multifrequency detector. For the past 17 years, Garrett detectors have served me well:thumbup:

What's really interesting about your find, is that a Minelab PI machine CANNOT pick up platinum! One of the local here tried (as he wants to hunt for the the roar material) it and got quite a shock when in an air test, he got zip of a signal!

That's because platinum has the same/similar conductivity as iron.:wiggle:

Hey, congrats on the platinium ring, Ron!:beers:That is a kick a#$ find!:detecting:Thanks for sharing!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Althoughtheir SD and GPX machines aren't by definition, PI machines, I was using the term in a generic sense as that is what they are mostly refered to as being. In this particular case, a GPX3500 was used.

Often coils won't pick up an object in an air test but will in the ground. Falls under the heading of " Metallurgical Phenomenon."

Someone is confused. I have an Excalibur II and have found plenty of platinum rings and bands with mine. There are some platinum finds posted right now on the other Find' forum. I also have a Sea Hunter Mk II and a Whites BHID. and they work just fine but can't touch the Excal on beach finds. Whoever was operating the Excalibur machine that would'nt hit on platinum either needs to adjust his or her machine or get it fixed. I like to hunt with my P I's where there isn't much trash. But on a crowded beach a P I has you digging while the Excal hunters are finding more good targets. I couldn't say that if I did'nt own and have owned several machines in my 40+ years of digging and scooping. Whatever a person likes to hunt with and is successfull with is why this hobby is so much fun but when the coil goes over the shiny stuff most machines I have used owned or been around will find it. JMHO HH :garrett::minelab::whites::tesoro::detecting:

Great find! I bet I'd pass right over it with my 2500. Any idea where it would ring up on a notch type detector?
