Excal 2 and the S-12 coil

Hey everyone...just hardwired a S12 to my Excal and thought I would share my results. I hunt west coast beaches...wet sand 95% of the time...ive been using the excal with 10 inch coil for over 2 years now and love it. I hunt in PP mode most the time..

So right away I noticed as expected that I had to lower my sensitivity...but even with it at 3 O'clock, hunting in PP was nearly impossible. Faulsing was also pretty bad in disc. Mode...so I made some adjustments...first I turned down the volume just a tad(it was full blast) that definatly helped stabilize it some...I wasnt expecting to gain any depth with the S12...but I definitely didnt expect to loose depth. I know that the bigger the coil the harder it is to hunt in PP..but even in disc mode I feel like I lost depth.. I miss that smooth stable threshold and hearing the deep whispers of the 10 inch coil...

My question is...Has anyone experienced this same thing? And if so..what adjustments did u make?

New weekend project: replace the S-12 with my 10 inch...lol

I haven't used the S-12 and have only heard good feed backs about this coil.Maybe someone can post who has more experience or information on this coil.Good Luck Ron

OB,I have used the older white coil with the yellow sticker. The older Sunray seemed to have good depth.I'm surprised someone hasn't posted any information for your question.Good Luck.Ron

Bad coil my guess, did you replace it with the 10? And it works fine. If so then the coil is bad.

I have not had time to try and trouble shoot the excal and coil yet...but Yes it iisSov. Coil..it seemed to work ok before I added the double holed end cap for headphones and PP switch...I did not touch the coil wires while replacing end cap on othe end of excal tube...so it dont know if its my headphone connection or the coil...

I will post my results

Thanks for the comments

I had the same problem on the east coast of fl. Sent it back and never looked back.

I live on the west coast and have the s-12 , it did not go as deep as the stock coil, went back to the tornado coil
