Excal 1000 is still acting up - CZ-21 is inbound.

Those who know me also know that I LOVE my Excal 1000 and who wouldn't with all the loot it has helped to put in my loot chest. Sadly, the Excal is due for an overhaul as she keeps falsing once I leave the water and move up the wet sand (I suspect a leak at the coil). Working the transition zone between the wet sand and the lane is impossible because the Excal becomes highly erratic as it keeps submerging and surfacing as the waves pass over the coil. I need to send it into Minelab for overhaul but this would leave me without a big gun in my arsenal during the prime hunting season.(only an ACE250 for back up)
Fortunately, a Mate on another forum has a brand new CZ-21 with about 6 hours on it that he wanted to part with and he gave me a fair deal on it. The cash has been sent his way via Fed Ex and the CZ-21 is inbound, I hope to see it within a week.(Fed Ex for the CZ-21 to Bermuda from the USA was over $300):yikes: I can wait until the snail mailman delivers the new big gun, no big rush. This will give me an opportunity to test the CZ-21 against the Excal for performance as I have a running debate with a CZ-21 lover over which detector performs better. I'll give you an update on my take on the CZ-21 versus the Excal after I get the hang of the new machine.
It never hurts to have a good back up machine.

Cheers,

Excal, CZ-21 & ACE250

Did you check your pinpoint knob? If it is just a little off the mark it will make your Excal false and make all kinds of noises.

Hopefully it will produce for you bda. It may be just bad luck, but I have hunted mine for over 60 hours and have one gold. Maybe I'm just not a CZ kinda guy, who knows? I will say this, they like big chunks. You got some of those in bda, so it may hunt well for you, we'll see. We'll be watching you mate, best of luck to ya and be sure to warn us that the heat has arrived in bda, when the unit comes in. When do you intend to ship off the Excal to Vegas? Be SURE to enclose a detailed letter, explaining all that you want addressed too. Also, now would be an excellent time to buy those Gray Ghost Underwater Headphones and have them installed too, you don't know what you've been missing with those tickets. It is a night and day difference, get some mate! Keep us posted!

I absolutely LOVE my CZ-21. I can understand the beeps most of the time and I think I do pretty well with it. I really think its all what your used to though. All my gold rings except 2 have been found with a CZ-20 /21. I have found over 200. I have only one issue with it though. I have only found 2 gold chains with it. One was because a nice gold cross was attached to it and the other because a penny was under it and while I was waving the sand away the end of the chain came unburried and was moving back and fourth while I was waving. This chain is 18.5 grams of 14K gold. No signal at all.

My Excal 1000 isn't good for chains either so it should be no different with the CZ-21. I'm a little concerned about going back to the bottom of the learning curve with the CZ-21 as I know my Excal inside and out. It didn't take me long to get a solid understanding of the Excal so I'm hoping I can figure out the CZ-21 pretty quickly as well.
Next on the list will be the new Whites underwater version of the soon to be released TDI, Insiders say that the dirt fisher's version should be released enmasse before the Fourth of July but the surf pirates will have to wait until Christmas. Let's hope the Christmas release doesn't turn out to be Easter.

Cheers,

The main thing your going to see with the CZ is absolute silence until you get a signal. No threshold at all. Plain silence. Keep your machine on 0 for discrimination. I have yet to try autotune. A low beep is probably iron. A medium to low beep is probably a bottletop, a double medium beep is probably a pulltab.

But since I hunt freshwater and its easy digging, I dig everything EXCEPT for solid iron signals. I also dig every bell signal. There are a lot of cans, BUT other things will surprise you. Guns, large rings, tools, you name it!!

BUT, I have only hunted fresh water. I have never used one in a salt water environment. You get used to what you have and its hard to change. The good thing is that your getting a quality machine. If switching is hard, you probably can find someone that will trade down the road so your backup machine is also an excal.

Good luck and please let us know your thoughts once you use it. Inquiring minds want to know!!

The fact is with chains the coil only see's one link at a time and most machines even on land will miss throw a fine chain on the ground and odds are that your coil won't see it. Some machines are very sensitive to gold thats why I run with a Troy X5 on land and am thinking about getting one converted to a water machine. For this season I've got the water hookah, 2 excals, CZ-21, Wader, Sand shark, all ready for a busy summer. Dan
