Excal 1000 headphones

Tippy

New member
HI Folks,

I am in need of some information. Specifically I would like to know the resistor and capacitor values on the end of the blue Koss headphones for the Excal 1000.
Alternatively, Koss is willing to help if I give them a model number.

Does anybody know the specific model number of the blues Koss headphones for the Excal 1000?

Does anybody know the resistor and/or capacitor values on the blue Koss headphones?

Cheers

You would be best to rebuilt the stock blues, cutting the guts out and putting that into some 3m pel...tors. There are not many with better tones then the old blues, the newer kosses are nice but block very little of the outside ambient noise, which from my test can cost you a few inchs at the beach. If you do not want to go that way, I would Highly recommend Gold Masters, expensive but one nice gold will cover the cost. I just started expermenting with different Headphone setups, and hope to have a grip on what the best setup would be. So far i've been thur GG UW, GoldMasters, Stock yellows, Old Blues, the sword models, some different koss's, Garretts UW, a couple pairs of White's UW......and the fishers UW...Good luck.....joe

OBN,

I have a question for you: How do the GG underwater compare in terms of sound quality, to Jolly Rogers Ultimates? I have some JR Ultimates for land hunting, but the way my hearing loss is, they aren't a good match for me. Are the GG underwater of a "brighter" sound, or any other description you can give them? I have a pair of the old stock blue headphones and may well rebuilt them in the pe..ors that I have on hand - just need the time to do that now.

Joe.... think GG will do an after market headphone for the Xcal if they have a remake of the machine? Seems they have the technology..... or are those connectors the reason its only good for 10 ft on the 3030? Id sure like to see an option...... Koss or GG for the 90 percent that dont dive with them.

Not knocking the GG UW because they are very well built, but they need to do some test, they were made for UW detecting..all machines....the fact is they need to be fine tuned for the excalibur's...

Excalibur and GG UW compare to the stock yellows, GG first.....second stock yellows

Barry NY has a few sets of the GG UW's for the CTX 3030

HI Oldbeechnut, thank you very much for the info !!

Do you have a part number for those Ikelite connectors?

SO I understand correctly, you do not use the resistor or capacitor when doing this mod. Is that correct?

Gonna fire up the CNC mill and make a few end caps !!

Hello OBN,

Finally getting around to assembling end caps etc.

Do I need the resistor & capacitor with the old Excalibur blue headphones ?

Kinda confused about wiring.....looks like white/red to resistor and black/yellow to resistor....then not sure how capacitor is wired.

Thanks for all your help OBN !

My opinion they are not needed. All of the endcaps I make and us never have them, and the old Excalibur swords never had them either. And I have never had a issue without them. A couple notes from my past
Mel Parker said they were not needed, and if not used the audio would be louder
Mr GoldMaster said they were HiLow filters

So I would say yiour fine without.

Good Luck and keep us informed....Joe
