EX II Pinpointing

Hi
I'm new to the EX II and have an X-1 on the way. My question is "is it normal for the EX II to make a broken low frequency sound sort of like a vibrating sound when you pinpoint a target in the pinpoint position"?

I don't have a II but I have an XS and it'll do that if the target is deep.

I'm also new to the explorer ll. Mine seems to hit on coins deeper in discrim then pinpoint. Now I actualy start to get excited when this happens as I know its deep!!! I've read of others who pinpoint in discrim, and now I try to pinpoint in discrom, and then chase it with my periscope pinpointer (sweat tool well worth the money). I have the X1 but hardly use it with the periscope now onboard. Its hard for me to believe that all explorer users dont have a periscope as I feel the two machines seem to accent each other. I see a day in the near future where I walk over shallow quarter hits looking for DEEP signals!!!I'm starting to pull alot of silver outta the ground!!!

I have a periscope but seldom use it because I don't like wearing it. I sent for an x-1. If the x-1 works I may put the preriscope on e-bay.

I can understand where your comming from till I figured out how to wear it. I use the sholder harness around my neck and with my left arm thru it. then I use the belt to keep it tight to my body , just below my brest and to my lft side. This keeps it above my pouch. next I run the headphone leed to the lft side and up to my lft ear. then I run the leed to the detector behind my back and that way the leeds won't become tangled with the probe leed. The last periscope on e-bay went for 260.00...do a search on completed items. I'll give you that now, and you will save the commision. I know a friend that will take it.

Amen brother to the praises of the Periscope. I'm becoming SO dependent on it I can't imagine tecting without it! I "bucket mounted" mine by wrapping the supplied belt around the outside of my tool bucket, then hanging the Periscope on the belt. I use the bucket anyway for trash, various shovels, spare batteries, bug spray and my Garmin. My buddy and I share the Periscope and I don't have to carry the thing around.

If you decide to get rid of your Periscope, let me know. I may have an instant buyer for you!

Still waiting for the X-1. I guess I will take the periscope out today and give it another try. I guess the main complaint I have with it (besides having to wear it) is it slows me down. The DFX pinpoints pretty good and I almost always find the target within a few seconds. I do use a handheld pinpointer to find the target in the dirt on the towell. I do think the Ex II goes a little deeper than the DFX so maybe pinpointing with the Periscope will save some digging. Hopefully the X-1 will work the way everyone says it will.

My whole target recovery method has changed. first off, the shallow targets are retreved with a probe or needle nose plyers (epoxcy on tips) up to 3" down. My lawn work has improved 100% with these types of recoveries. On the deeper targets after I verify, I use a plugger to recover the deeper coins, but, dont buy any smaller then 3" around plugger. If the periscope says 3" deep I go a lil over 3" with the plugger and the coin will generaly be in the bottom of the plug.
IMO the periscope is priceless for telling the deep silver from deep falsing iron.

Exactly, Iceguy. The Periscope is especially valuable for the deep targets, unless you just like wasting time digging deep holes. However, I'm using it more and more as my primary pinpointer, because it identifies PRECISELY where the target is and, most generally, the type of material.
Like you, I use a plugger pretty often since I can pinpoint both the depth and location so precisely with the Periscope. I've even etched depth marks on the side of my plugger for just this purpose.

I recently bought a plugger, but it's only 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
Where did you guys get your pluggers because most metal detecting sites don't seem to sell them? And Ice, where did you get one with a diameter larger than 3"? Do you have an Internet link?
I got mine from Rick Scott (Scott Mfg.), and I'm not complaining, it's great, but I was just wondering where you got one larger than 3" in diameter.

I got mine about a year ago from Kellyco. It has a 3 Inch diameter. Cost was right at $50. It is kind of heavy but works as advertised. The X-1 came in yesterday, haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I made mine. I have others for sale for $59.00 shipped to lower 48.. Very rugged 3x10 inches!

Iceguy,
Do you have pictures of it somewhere? I'd like to get a plugger with getter depth. Mine only goes to around 7.5".

I bought one a little while back, and it's made very sturdy. Kinda pricey though. It's worked fine the few places I've tried, but won't handle large roots. 4" diameter. Try searching in google for Target Buddy. He's not an advertiser here so I won't post url.

Going to the cash bash this weeekend. I'll be bringing an extra plugger there if anyone is interested

There is no other tool offered that can compete with it. Once you become resonably accurate with your machine, the Scope will not only increase your recovery time, but save tons of wasted dirt dug. I have not "scarred" a coin since using mine.
